Camouflaged 2016 Hyundai Elantra Spied In India For First Time

The new generation 2016 Hyundai Elantra has been spied in India for the first time. The luxury sedan will replace the current generation Elantra presently sold in the country.

The Hyundai Elantra is a vehicle which solidifies Hyundai’s claim that its cars are just as luxurious and well built as European and American vehicles. The car was the best-selling mid-size premium sedan in its class for quite a while and its Fluidic Design v1.0 language with its swooping lines and swept back headlamps mesmerized Indian hearts and minds alike. Now the sixth generation Hyundai Elantra, which will make its Indian debut this year, has been spotted testing in India for the first time.

The car was revealed to the world last year and is set to enter the Indian market this year. Though the car is camouflaged, it is easy to spot the identity of the vehicle due to its tail-lamp and headlamp design along with the rising window-line and other styling elements. The 2016 Hyundai Elantra is 4610 mm long, 1800 mm wide, 1450 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2700 mm. The Korean sedan also gets all new interiors with a new 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also gets a 3-spoke steering wheel and a new alloy wheel design.

Mechanically, the new generation Hyundai Elantra gets a 1.6-litre e-VGT diesel engine capable of 136 PS and is mated to a 7-speed DCT or a 6-speed MT. It also comes in petrol avatar which features the 1.6-litre GDI petrol engine producing 132 PS of power and is mated to a 6 speed AT or MT gearbox. However, Hyundai is yet to confirm the powertrain specifications of the Indian spec Elantra.

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra is 20 mm longer and 25 mm wider than its predecessor and is made up of 53% AHSS (Advanced High Strength Steel). The car is very aerodynamic with a drag coefficient of just 0.27 CD. Hyundai also claims to have designed to Elantra to be more driver centric with the cockpit display angled 6.9 degrees towards the driver. The 6th generation model is expected to go on sale in India towards the end of this year or in early-2017.
