Datsun GO Caught On Test In Chennai

Nissan has re-launched the Datsun brand after three decades and the Japanese automaker is betting big on the sub-brand to churn out big volumes. In July this year, the brand unveiled its first offering, the Datsun GO, which is a hatchback based on the Nissan Micra. The Datsun GO has been spied testing undisguised in Chennai recently by our friends at IndianAutosBlog. The hatchback has commenced its real world tests and is being prepared to hit Indian showrooms in early 2014. The GO will receive high level of localisation and will be priced under Rs. 4 lakhs.

Powering the Datsun GO will be a single petrol engine option derived from the Nissan Micra. It is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine that produces 68 PS of power and 104 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. However, the GO is most likely to get a detuned engine, in order to boost fuel efficiency. In terms of styling, the Datsun GO doesn’t look like a cheap car, thanks to the mature proportions and aggressive design language. The interior design is neat as well and gets light colour tones for a sense of roominess.

Nissan claims that the Datsun GO will provide best in class interior room with features like mobile docking system for smartphone connectivity, single din audio player and similar basic equipment. The GO will compete with the likes of the Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i10 and Maruti Wagon R. The vehicle will be manufactured at Renault-Nissan’s Chennai production facility. Nissan has also showcased the MPV version based on the GO hatchback in Indonesia, which is named GO+. The GO+ is also expected to launch in India after the GO hatchback.
