Ford Figo Crossover Spotted, Gets A Revamped Cabin

The Ford Figo crossover has been spotted without any camouflage ahead of its launch.

The Figo crossover is slated for a 2018 launch

Although not a bummer in terms of sales, the current-gen Ford Figo hasn’t been exactly successful either. The hatchback came with a punchy diesel motor since the beginning and the Figo S with improved dynamics was also introduced later. However, the mediocre petrol engine, the objectionable reliability of the DCT gearbox and a not so solid cabin ensured that the car never really took off. The carmaker plans to give another shot at the segment and the Figo crossover spotted recently gives away crucial details.

According to the images, the Figo crossover is not just another hatchback with claddings slapped on as we’ve seen in the Toyota Etios Cross and Maruti Celerio X. It gets redesigned bumpers with faux skid plates. On the outside, there are many differentiators to set it apart from its hatchback sibling, which include roof rails, body cladding, blacked-out wing mirrors and a prominent black racing stripe.

Elements such as door visors, chrome window lining, bumper protectors and chrome door handles can also be seen on the spotted car which are most probably dealer provided accessories. The Figo crossover is seen wearing a different paint shade which looks similar to the EcoSport’s Canyon Beige shade. It is also likely that Ford has lifted the suspension height and provided more ground clearance to complement the crossover attire.

It is on the inside where the American carmaker has played the trick. The Figo crossover gets a revised cabin layout with a floating touchscreen infotainment system. While the interior update is welcome, automatic climate control seems to have been given a miss. It is also possible that the Figo crossover spotted this time is a lower spec variant and some features are reserved for the top-end variant.

Under the hood, the Figo crossover is likely to continue with the 1.5-litre diesel engine and employ a new 1.2-litre Dragon series petrol engine. The former makes about 99 BHP of power and 215 Nm of torque while the latter is good for 95 BHP of power and 115 Nm of torque. Both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Figo crossover will be priced slightly above the Figo hatchback which retails between Rs. 4.8 and 7.8 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
