Hero MotoCorp To Phase Out Honda Developed Models By 2018

2016 Hero Splendor iSmart 110 Review First Ride

Hero MotoCorp is looking to develop new technologies and wants to move away from Honda completely by 2018 by phasing out motorcycles developed by the Japanese automaker.

The Hero Duet and Maestro have been developed in-house completely

Hero Honda had built a huge stronghold for itself in the Indian 2-wheeler market but then the companies decided to part ways. The split happened five years back and Hero has been operating as Hero MotoCorp while Honda has been operating as a separate entity. However, Hero MotoCorp has still been using some technology from Honda and the former was even paying royalty to the latter.

According to some latest developments, it seems that Hero MotoCorp will finally let go of Honda legacy by 2018. Since the past five years, Hero has definitely developed a lot of technologies on their own and they want to completely move away from Honda (they have to as BS-IV norms will come into effect for bikes next year and the old Honda engines on Hero bikes won’t comply with the new norms). The firm has also developed some products in-house such as the Maestro and Duet and these have no connection to Honda.

Hero is also looking to develop smart mobility technology at a lower cost. Another issue that Hero MotoCorp needs to tackle is that many people still refer to the company as Hero Honda which means that they will still have to put in a lot of efforts to change the perceptions of the market as well as the public. The world’s largest 2-wheeler manufacturer plans to launch premium bikes like the Xtreme 200 S and HX250 which will go on sale next year.
