Honda HR-V Compact SUV

Honda HR-V urban SUV will launch in India in early 2017 and will compete with the Mahindra XUV500 and other D-segment sedans. It will be the third SUV in Honda’s portfolio after the CR-V and BR-V.

India is a tough place for automakers who take things lightly. The Japanese global giant Honda up until some years ago was counted amongst the laggards of the automotive market with a handful of cars which were out of sync with the market demands. Then Honda decided to change things and introduced new cars in India to survive in the market. Now continuing its product onslaught, Honda has decided to introduce the HR-V urban SUV in India.

The Honda HR-V is an urban SUV which was unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. Honda plans to bring the SUV to India in early 2017 and fill the gap between the CR-V and the upcoming BR-V. The car will compete with the Mahindra XUV500 and the much awaited Tata Hexa crossover and also with other D-segment sedans. In the international market, the HR-V is powered by a 1.8-litre petrol engine having a power output of 141 BHP, mated to a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. Plus there is also a 1.6-litre diesel engine that churns out 120 BHP of power.

The SUV exemplifies the typical Honda design language with sharp cuts and creases on the body making the vehicle look exciting from every angle. Based on the platform of the spacious Jazz, the HR-V shares its face with its bigger sister the CR-V and is loaded to the gills with features such as day time running lights, power door mirror and smart key entry. It also gets a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Bluetooth.

The Honda HR-V, where HR-V stands for Hi-rider Revolutionary Vehicle in Honda speak, will enter a highly competitive segment which is currently ruled by the venerable Mahindra XUV500 simply because it has no direct competitor as of yet. The Rs. 15 lakh+ SUV segment is expected to explode soon as new entrants are coming in the market such as the Tata Hexa crossover and the Hyundai Tuscon. The no-fuss sales and service support of Honda and the prestige which comes with the upright-H badge is sure to make the HR-V a success.
