Honda Overtakes Tata To Become 4th Largest Car Maker

Most of the passenger vehicle makers observed a flat or decline in domestic sales last month. With Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Mahindra securing the top three spots, the fourth spot was taken by Honda.

The City maker sold a total of 18,261 units in January 2019, compared to 14,838 units in the analogous month in 2018. The successful performance of the Amaze, WR-V and City contributed to the rise in domestic sales. The company asserts that backing from dealer partners and effective marketing strategy to get through tier-2 and tier-3 cities have resulted in strong double-digit growth.

Tata Motors’ domestic sales of passenger vehicles witnessed a staggering drop of 11%, at 17,826 units in January 2019, as compared with 20,055 units in the same month last year. The Safari maker is anticipating to bounce back with strong demand from the newly launched Harrier. The homegrown carmaker says that the market became sluggish due to poor buyer sentiment.
