Hyundai Launches New Verna In India

Hyundai has launched its new Fluidic Verna in India. The 2011 Verna is available with four powertrains, two each of petrol and diesel. The Verna 1.4 petrol is priced at Rs. 6.99 lakhs, whereas the top end Verna 1.6 diesel automatic Rs. 10.74 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The new Verna is available in 10 variants and the price difference between each variant is Rs. 60,000/-. The price difference between the manual and automatic variant is Rs. 70,000/-. The company aims to sell 45,000 units this year and has spent Rs. 900 crore in the development of the new model.

The new Hyundai Verna is powered by the company’s latest Gamma petrol and U2 diesel engines. The 1.4 liter diesel motor is straight from the i20 and produces 90bhp of power. It returns 23.5 kmpl as per ARAI. The new 1.6 liter CRDi is the most powerful diesel engine in the segment and produces 126bhp of power and 26.5kgm of torque. This engine is fuel efficient too and returns 22.32 kmpl.

The new generation Gamma petrol twin-cam, 16-valve engines are equipped with continuously variable valve timing (CVVT). The cheapest variant in the 2011 Verna line up is powered by the 1.4 liter petrol which produces 106.5bhp of power and returns 17.43 kmpl. The 1.6 Gamma petrol develops all of 122bhp, helping the Verna become the most powerful engine in its class. An ARAI certified mileage of 17.01 kmpl looks highly optimistic here.
