The new Hyundai Santro was re-introduced to the Indian market last year. After the much awaited come back of the small car and initial hype, the Santro couldn’t spin large volumes for Hyundai. Now the latest result from Global NCAP crash test has shown poor ratings.

The Santro has scored 2-star each for Adult and Child Occupant Protection. The car has been tested at 64 km/hr and the bodyshell has been rated as unstable. The hatchback scores 6.74 points out of 17 in Adult Occupant Protection and 15 points out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection.

The protection is good for driver and passenger’s head and neck. Driver’s chest has shown weak protection while passenger’s chest showed marginal protection. Driver and passenger’s knees showed marginal protection as it could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by tranfascia tube.

The bodyshell of the new Hyundai Santro was rated as unstable. The body shell was not capable of withstanding further loadings. The footwell area was rated as unstable as well.

Hyundai declined to recommend Child Restraint Systems (CRS) for the crash test, as a result the dynamic points were rated as zero. The CRS for the 3 year old was installed forward facing with adult seatbelt and it was not able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact. The head of the dummy contacted the seat.

The 18 month old CRS was installed with adult seatbelt rearward facing that has offered good protection to the child dummy. The Santro doesn’t come with 3 points in all seating position. The Korean carmaker does not offer ISOFIX connectors as well. These results might further affect the sales of the Santro.
