The 2nd-generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has bagged a 3-star rating in the latest round of crash tests by Global NCAP under its #SaferCarsForIndia campaign. This second-best-selling MPV of September 2019, gets dual airbags, ABS, front seatbelt reminders and Isofix anchorages as standard. The Ertiga gets 3-stars for both adult and child occupant protection.

Global NCAP has rated the structure as borderline unstable, head and neck protection for adult occupants was good. Protection for the front passenger’s chest was rated good but for the driver, it was marginal. The test also noted that the seatbelt pre-tensioner failed to work properly. The footwell area was rated as unstable and pedal displacement showed risks to the lower legs of the driver.

Coming to child occupant protection, the head and chest protection was poor for the 18-month-old dummy. A forward-facing position has been advised for the 18-month dummy instead of the rearward facing position. Having said that, for the 3-year-old dummy, the protection was fairly good. The absence of a 3-point seatbelt for the second row’s middle seat was a chink in its armor too.
