Kawasaki Launches Z250 Streetfighter In Indonesia

Today seems to be a big day for motorcycle enthusiasts. First there was the news of Honda working on the CBR400R and now Kawasaki has launched the Z250 in Indonesia. It is safe to say the Z250 is the streetfighter or naked version of the Ninja 250R. Thus both bikes share a lot of parts and this is the first time Kawasaki has dropped the full fairing on the Ninja 250R to target a new set of buyers. The Z250 looks very similar to its elder sibling, the Z800, which is a very good thing indeed.

Powering the Kawasaki Z250 is a 250cc, parallel-twin, fuel-injected engine which is expected to belt out 33 BHP of peak power and 22 Nm of peak torque. The redline comes up at a stratospheric 13,000 RPM. This motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Performance is nothing short of breath taking and the Z250 is excepted to be slightly faster with lower weight due to lesser body panels. Offered in three colors – red, black and white, the Z250 is manufactured at Kawasaki’s Thailand plant.

The Kawasaski Z250’s India launch seems quite unlikely, considering the fact that the company plans to replace the Ninja 250R in India with the Ninja 300R. The Z250 is priced at Rs. 2.65 lakhs in Indonesia and could fit well between the KTM Duke 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 300R in the Indian market. However Kawasaki wants to target the premium segment and the Duke 390 will certainly prove to be a more value for money motorcycle, considering it offers more power and performance for a lower price. It remains to be seen how Kawasaki expands its portfolio in India, a highly potential market for performance bikes.
