Kia expands Sonet lineup with more affordable automatic variants starting Rs. 9.77 lakhs
Kia has expanded the automatic transmission lineup of the Kia Sonet in India by introducing new variants positioned lower in the range. The move makes automatic versions of the compact SUV more accessible, with prices for the diesel-automatic variants now starting at Rs. 9.77 lakhs (ex-showroom), while the turbo-petrol automatic variants begin at Rs. 9.89 lakhs (ex-showroom). Kia has also added a new Magma Red colour option to the Sonet’s palette.
Previously, automatic gearboxes were limited to higher trims such as HTX, GTX+ and X-Line. With the update, Kia has introduced additional variants that offer automatic transmissions at more affordable price points. The diesel-automatic lineup now includes trims such as HTE(O), HTK(O), HTK+ and HTK+(O), while the turbo-petrol automatic range has been expanded with HTK(O) and HTK+(O) variants.
The expanded lineup results in a broader selection of automatic options for buyers. According to Kia, the updated pricing makes diesel-automatic variants up to Rs. 2.25 lakhs more affordable than before, while turbo-petrol automatic versions are roughly Rs. 1.7 lakhs cheaper compared to the earlier entry point. With these revisions, the Sonet becomes one of the most accessible compact SUVs in India to offer a diesel engine paired with an automatic gearbox.
The Sonet continues to be offered with three engine options. These include a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 120 HP and 172 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a 1.5-litre diesel engine delivering 116 HP and 250 Nm, available with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83 HP and 115 Nm is also part of the lineup, although it is only offered with a 5-speed manual transmission.
With the introduction of these new variants, Kia aims to expand the appeal of the Sonet to buyers looking for the convenience of an automatic gearbox at a relatively lower price point in the compact SUV segment.
