Limited Edition KTM RC 8C Racer Unveiled

The track bike only weighs 140 kg (dry)

The production of KTM RC 8C track machine will be limited to 100 units.

KTM has revealed the RC 8C racer, only 100 units of which will be produced for the entire world. When the production run ends, the motorcycle would become one of the rarest automobiles on planet earth.

The lightweight machine has been developed by the Austrian manufacturer in partnership with Kramer Motorcycles and was designed by the team that worked on the RC16 MotoGP racer.

The hand-built chromium-molybdenum steel trellis frame (with multiple adjustment settings) is covered in an elegant bodywork that is made of lightweight material (GRP with carbon Kevlar).

It has 120/70-section front and 180/60-section rear (can be 200/55-section if need be) tyres

Up front, there are winglets that flank the ram air intake, a large airbox occupies the entire ‘tank space’, while the (16-litre) fuel tank is situated in the subframe.

Sporting a bespoke stainless steel racing exhaust with an Akrapovic titanium muffler with a carbon end cap, the motorcycle also has a carbon-fibre front fender with air scoop, bespoke aluminium swingarm with a scoop, an even a rain light.

Due to it being a track-only bike, the KTM RC 8C comes with a multitude of adjustments for a rider to find the perfect riding position. The triple clamp, handlebars, foot pegs and the subframe mount, are all adjustable.

What’s more, KTM has also fitted top-class componentry so that a rider can fully exploit the motorcycle’s potential around a circuit.

The fuel tank is located in the subframe

For example, there are fully adjustable WP Pro suspension, 17-inch forged aluminium wheels (with a quick change assembly) that are wrapped with Pirelli Diablo tyres and Brembo brakes.

All of this has resulted in the machine having an impressive 140 kg dry weight. Due to it being so light, KTM has fitted the LC8c engine from the 890 Duke R to the bike.

In the RC 8C, the 889cc motor makes a maximum of 126 BHP and 101 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch and a quickshifter.

It is a shame that only 100 such machines are being made

What’s more, a 5-inch TFT digital display shows all the necessary data one would need when riding around a circuit. It also comes with data logging (into AIM RaceStudio) and integrated GPS function, while the switchgear are all race-style.

Although the price of the KTM RC 8C has not been revealed, the firm has announced that 25 customers will be given the opportunity to opt for a track experience with KTM test riders Dani Pedrosa and Mika Kallio.
