Mahindra Unveils Pantero & Centuro Motorcycles

Mahindra is taking its motorcycle division very seriously. The company might have struck the right chord with its scooters, but it fails to find much success with motorcycles. The Stallio did not do well and had to be recalled due to the various problems it had. Now Mahindra is all set to re-enter the motorcycle segment and has unveiled the Pantero and Centuro motorcycles. Mahindra claims the Pantero is an all new product which shares styling elements with the Stallio, while the Centuro is the Pantero with extra features. The company has also firm plans to launch the 300cc Mojo later this year.

Both these motorcycles share most of their parts and are powered by a Mahindra developed MCI-5 (Micro Chip Ignited 5-Curve) engine. While the Pantero offers very good maneuverability, thanks to its low turning radius, the Centuro is loaded with many segment firsts including central locking anti-theft system, engine immobilizer, remote 128 bit encrypted key, maintenance free battery, find me lamps, guide lamps, LED pilot and tail lamps and digital instrument cluster with service indicator and distance to empty meter. Although the Pantero is the cheaper bike, it has a storage compartment and a huge tank pad, which are missing in the Centuro.

Powering the Pantero and Centuro is a 106.7cc single-cylinder engine which produces 8.5 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 8.5 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM. This engine is mated to a 4-speed gearbox and the Pantero boasts of an ARAI certified mileage of 79.5 km/l. The Centuro doesn’t go on sale immediately and thus more details are not available. However the Pantero is offered in 4 variants – Self Start/ Cast Alloy Wheels/ Digital Console, Self Start/ Cast Alloy Wheels/ Analog Console, Kick Start/ Cast Alloy Wheels/ Analog Console and Kick Start/ Spoke/ Analog Console. The Pantero is offered in 4 colors namely Fiery Red, Blazing Black Cool Black and Sterling Silver. Mahindra will manufacture both these motorcycles at its Pithampur plant in Indore.
