Mahindra has patented the design of the Vision X in India, indicating that the compact SUV is moving closer to production. First showcased as a concept, the Vision X is expected to become the smallest SUV based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ platform and is likely to be positioned above the XUV 3XO in the company’s lineup.
The patent images closely resemble the concept model, suggesting that the production version could retain much of its original styling. The SUV features a sporty stance with a sharply styled front end, pronounced wheel arches and a coupe-inspired profile. It also appears to retain slim outside rear-view mirrors, giving it a contemporary appearance.
The Vision X is expected to measure under four metres in length, allowing Mahindra to position it in India’s highly competitive compact SUV segment. Despite its compact footprint, the SUV is likely to target buyers looking for a more premium offering than the XUV 3XO.
Like other upcoming Mahindra models based on the NU_IQ architecture, the Vision X is expected to support multiple powertrains. The platform has been developed to accommodate both internal combustion engines and electric drivetrains, and the Vision X is likely to be offered in both ICE and EV forms. Industry reports suggest the electric version could arrive before the petrol-powered model, although Mahindra has not officially confirmed the rollout strategy.
While the cabin has not been revealed in detail, earlier prototypes indicated that the Vision X could borrow several interior elements from the BE 6. These are expected to include a dual-screen layout and a steering wheel with a similar design, giving the compact SUV a more modern cabin.
The Vision X was designed by Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai in collaboration with Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) in the UK, continuing the design approach seen across the brand’s latest concepts.
Mahindra has not announced a launch timeline for the Vision X, though production is expected to begin in 2027. However, with the company scheduled to make announcements on August 15, there is speculation that additional details or a near-production version could be showcased before its market launch.
If positioned above the XUV 3XO as expected, the Vision X is likely to enter the market with premium pricing while remaining within the sub-Rs. 16 lakh bracket.
