BMW India has commenced bookings for the facelifted 7 Series and its all-electric counterpart, the i7, ahead of their market launch. Customers can reserve the flagship luxury sedans through authorised BMW dealerships or via the company’s official website. The updated models arrive a little over three months after making their global debut and bring revisions to their styling, cabin technology and powertrains.
The exterior receives subtle yet noticeable changes. Up front, the redesigned illuminated kidney grille becomes the focal point, while the split headlamp setup has been reworked with slimmer daytime running lights positioned above the main lighting units. The bumper has also been revised to give the sedan a cleaner appearance.
Viewed from the side, the overall silhouette remains largely unchanged. However, BMW has introduced a fresh alloy wheel design, while the flush-fitting door handles continue to contribute to the car’s streamlined profile. Another distinctive touch is the embossed ‘7’ integrated into the B-pillar, visible when both doors on one side are opened.
At the rear, the tail-lamps have been redesigned with a slimmer profile and now extend further into the boot lid. Chrome detailing within the lighting elements and smoked lenses add a different look, while the rear bumper gets a revised diffuser-style insert. Functional components such as the reversing camera and boot release remain neatly concealed.
Inside, BMW has significantly updated the dashboard layout. The facelift introduces a 17.9-inch central touchscreen paired with a 14.6-inch passenger display. Instead of a conventional digital instrument cluster, driving information is projected across the base of the windscreen. The infotainment system runs the latest BMW Operating System X and supports over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and enhanced voice functionality.
The cabin also receives a newly designed four-spoke steering wheel along with updated ambient lighting that stretches across the dashboard and extends to the rear section of the cabin. Standard equipment includes electrically adjustable seats with heating, ventilation, massage, lumbar support and heated armrests. Rear-seat comfort has also been enhanced, with the front passenger seat capable of sliding further forward to maximise legroom for occupants seated behind.
BMW has also upgraded the rear entertainment experience. Internationally, the optional Theatre Screen is now a larger 31.3-inch 8K display supporting video streaming, gaming and video calls. Rear door-mounted control panels have also been updated, allowing passengers to adjust the display and operate various cabin functions.
Under the bonnet, the 740i xDrive petrol and 740d xDrive diesel continue with 3.0-litre inline-six mild-hybrid engines paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Output has increased for both variants, with the petrol now producing 400 HP and 580 Nm, while the diesel develops 313 HP and 670 Nm.
The electric BMW i7 also receives mechanical updates. The entry-level rear-wheel-drive version has been replaced by the new i7 50 xDrive, which now comes with all-wheel drive and a larger 112.4 kWh battery pack. Power increases to 455 HP and torque rises to 660 Nm. The performance-focused i7 M70 xDrive also adopts the larger battery and now develops up to 680 HP and 1100 Nm.
BMW is yet to announce prices for the updated models in India. The outgoing 7 Series is currently priced at Rs. 1.85 crores (ex-showroom), while the i7 range starts at Rs. 2.10 crores and goes up to Rs. 2.58 crores. With the additional equipment and mechanical upgrades, a price revision is expected when the facelifted models are officially launched.
