2018 Maruti Ciaz Video Review

Maruti has updated the Ciaz with the new 1.5 diesel engine, priced from Rs. 9.97-11.37 lakhs.

The new diesel engine variants will be sold alongside the petrol

Maruti launched the Ciaz facelift in India last year and it got a new 1.5-litre petrol engine while retaining the existing 1.3-litre diesel engine. The automaker has now launched the updated Ciaz diesel which gets the new in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine along with a 6-speed MT.

The new 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine offers more power and torque than the older engine and it will also comply with the BS6 norms 2020 onwards. The new motor produces 93.8 BHP at 4000 RPM and 225 Nm of torque at 1500-2500 RPM. The new diesel engine comes with a high-efficiency turbocharger which helps optimise the low-end torque for better drivability in slow speeds. A dual-mass flywheel is used along with an optimised compression ratio which helps in attaining better NVH performance for a comfortable driving experience. The new diesel engine doesn’t get SHVS.

Coming to the engine, the light-weight cast aluminium cylinder head and block along with better engine calibration adds to the fuel efficiency of the engine. The 225 DDiS engine is mated to a new 6-speed manual gearbox. The company claims that the new gearbox is designed to offer light shifts. The Ciaz diesel now has a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 26.82 km/l.

The Maruti Ciaz is also offered with the 1.5-litre K15 petrol engine which also features SHVS II. The new diesel engine will be offered alongside the petrol variants. The Maruti Ciaz 1.5 diesel is priced from Rs. 9.97-11.37 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The updated Ciaz diesel is pricier than the older car by Rs. 17,000-35,000/- depending on the variant. With this, Maruti has also discontinued the Sigma diesel variant.
