Maruti RIII MPV To Be Called Ertiga

Maruti Suzuki plans to name the RIII MPV, Ertiga, as per Autocar India Editor Hormazd Sorabjee. The word Ertiga doesn’t have any meaning according to the Oxford dictionary. Based on the Ritz platform, the Ertiga MPV is Maruti Suzuki’s rival to the Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova. Power will come through an all new K14 engine which will produce 95 BHP of power and 13 KGM of torque. The Fiat Multijet will do duty on the diesel Ertiga, with power of 89 BHP and 200 Nm of torque. Prices of the Ertiga are expected to start around Rs. 6.99 lakhs with the launch most likely to happen at the upcoming 2012 Auto Expo.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertigo is a front-wheel drive vehicle and has been designed to drive like a car. The wheelbase has been stretched by 380 mm on the Ritz to 2740 mm. The interiors are similar to the new Swift and are given the beige treatment to induce a feeling of premium. Electronic climate control has been omitted on the Ertiga all together but the MPV features three rows of seats with AC vents across all the rows. The Ertiga has a length of 4265 mm and will be a value for money offering in the MPV segment. A critical car for Maruti, there are very little reasons why the Ertiga won’t sell.
