Mercedes S500 Coupe & S63 AMG Launched, Priced From Rs. 2 Crores [Live]

The S500 Coupe and S63 AMG are the two-door V8 powered offerings based on the new W222 S-Class and offer some more exclusivity with some outlandish levels of power.

Expanding its S-Class luxury lineup for the first time in the country, Mercedes-Benz India has officially launched the 2015 S500 Coupe and S63 AMG models with prices starting at Rs. 2 crores (ex-showroom, Delhi). Both the coupe body style models are based on the S-Class four-door saloon and are powered by a V8 heart tuned for different output. With the new S-Class Coupe models, Mercedes has introduced the epitome of luxury and performance in the country with unmatched exclusivity, with the both the models being the only of its kind in the segment.

To begin with, the 2015 Mercedes S500 Coupe features a bold front with a larger grille and gets LED high performance headlamps with 94 Swarovski that offers a striking appearance, out of which 34 angular crystals are for the flare shaped DRLs and 60 round shaped crystals make up the turn indicator lamps. The two-door model gets a coupe roofline that seamlessly merges into the rear and boasts of a dominant shoulder-line. Power on the S500 comes from a 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that is tuned to produce 455 HP and 700 Nm of torque and comes paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The S500 carries over the luxurious bits from the S-Class four-door saloon, but adds a lot more exclusivity to the owner’s profile. With no expense spared inside the cabin, performance too is impeccable with the 0-100 km/hr run achievable in 4.6 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 250 km/hr. The S500 also comes with the famous Magic Body Control for improved ride quality.

Next up is the 2015 Mercedes S63 AMG that is based on the S500 Coupe. Updated with the AMG treatment, the S63 gets sportier bumpers with larger air intakes, AMG alloy wheels and quad exhausts boasting of the beat under the hood. Power comes from a 5.5-litre V8 Bi-Turbo petrol engine that churns out 585 HP and a mind-boggling 900 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed AMG SpeedShift transmission. Even with a kerb weight of 1995 kgs, the S63 AMG is capable of doing the 0-100 km/hr run in 4.2 seconds or 3.9 seconds (in All-Wheel Drive trim), whereas top speed is limited to 250 km/hr but can be increased to 300 km/hr with the optional AMG Driver’s package.

In addition to the S500 Coupe and S63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz India has also introduced the ‘Designo’ customisation platform for the S-Class saloon that adds a host of individualisation options including high paint finish, high quality interior, hand-sewn leather upholstery, trims of wood and natural stone inside the cabin and unparalleled craftsmanship to offer for that unique personal touch. The company has further devised an app for the iPad that has been created specifically for trained sales personnel and will allow instant customisation as per the customer’s needs. The customer can also receive instant price quotes for the model customised.

Mercedes-Benz has been extremely aggressive about its operations in India and has been working on a back-to-back launch spree. In addition to its luxury range, the German auto giant more recently opened its second assembly division at the Chakan facility for the GLA and made a total investment of Rs. 1000 crores in India, the largest by any luxury carmaker. For the rest of the calendar year, Mercedes has a host of models scheduled for launch including the GLE (new M-Class), AMG-GT performance coupe among others.
