Mercedes-Benz’ performance division AMG recently sold its 25 percent stake in Italian super bike maker, MV Agusta. Mercedes-AMG had acquired the 25 percent stake in MV Agusta back in 2014 for around 30 million euros (Rs. 226 crores).

Reports suggest that Mercedes-AMG had purchased that stake in MV Agusta as an answer to Ducati’s purchase by Audi. MV Agusta has confirmed that AMG’s 25 percent stake has been bought by ComSar Invest which is owned by a Russian oil and gas tycoon, Timur Sardarov. The Russian company is aiming to increase the presence of MV Agusta in various markets through continued investment in the brand’s sales and service networks, technology and marketing fields.

The financial side of this acquisition is unknown yet, but we believe ComSar Invest must have paid at least 30 million euros to Mercedes-AMG. Meanwhile, Giovanni Castiglioni, the current owner of MV Agusta will maintain a controlling interest in the company.

MV Agusta as a brand is inclined towards making exotic super bikes and came to India in collaboration with the Kinetic Group. It recently launched the Brutale 800, priced at Rs. 15.59 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune) which is almost Rs. 5-6 lakhs more than rivals. The motorcycle is powered by a 796cc inline 3-cylinder engine that produces 109 HP and 83 Nm.
