New Toyota Compact SUV To Take On Honda’s Vezel

Toyota is well known across the globe for making market specific vehicles and the auto manufacturer has products lined up in all the vehicle segments. The compact SUV segment is one of the hottest and fastest growing segments in various markets across the globe and every auto manufacturer is trying to deliver its products in this segment. Toyota hasn’t made its presence felt well in this steep growing compact SUV space though it has a strong presence in the SUV and the premium SUV segments. Currently, Toyota sells only the Rush in the compact SUV class and sales of the vehicle is restricted to some Asian markets.

Recently, some renderings have surfaced over the web which showcase the Japanese automaker’s new premium compact SUV. The new compact SUV is currently under the development stage and Toyota hasn’t officially revealed any details regarding this development. This vehicle when launched can be a sure competitor to the Honda Vezel, Nissan Juke, Dualis, etc. This compact SUV might be one of the initial models to sport Toyota’s new design philosophy, underpinned by the TNGA platform which was earlier revealed to us in the beginning of 2014.

The next generation Toyota Prius will be the first vehicle to feature this new design philosophy and we can expect similar design cues on the new compact SUV. This vehicle might be powered by the newly developed hybrid powertrains of different capacities and the BMW sourced diesel engine may also be used in some markets. We expect this vehicle to enter production in 2016 while the concept vehicle might be showcased at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. This vehicle might not be launched in the Indian market initially considering that its chief competitors are not sold here due to pricing constraints.
