Next-Gen Volkswagen Vento To Be Launched Before New Rapid

2019 Volkswagen Vento
New-generation car is expected to be styled well like the current model

Volkswagen will launch the 2021 Vento, replacement to the current model, ahead of the new-generation Skoda Rapid.

The C-segment sedans, underpinned by the MQB A0 IN platform, will be introduced once both the German and Czech carmakers launch their compact SUVs in the market.

However, with the compact SUVs, it is the production version of the Skoda Vision IN concept that will precede the Volkswagen Taigun.

To be most likely powered by the current 1.0-litre TSI motor and 6-speed manual and auto gearbox options, both small sedans will be heavily localised to keep costs in check.

Indeed, former global CEO of Skoda Auto, Bernhard Maier, is said to have pushed for 95 percent localisation for new cars launched under the India 2.0 plan of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL).

The larger 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor that will power the compact SUVs of both brands might not be offered with the 2021 Volkswagen Vento or the Skoda Rapid, again to keep costs under control.

Over the years both the Vento and Rapid have proven to be solid cars and have aged well. Despite being mainstream models and more aligned towards offering practicality and usability, they are among few cars that also ride well.

Skoda has even announced that the Rapid is sold out for this year, the brand’s idea of offering entry-level variants at premium hatchback prices working wonders.

Provided that the carmakers improve their aftersales service and price the models well, the 2021 Volkswagen Vento launch and subsequently the new Rapid launch will help the group achieve its aim to capture three percent of the market by 2022.
