Range Rover Evoque Now Locally Assembled, Price Slashed By Rs. 20 Lakhs

The CKD operations have commenced for the pre-facelift Range Rover Evoque that was launched in 2011 and not the 2015 edition that premiered last month.

The Evoque also gets contrast coloured roof standard across all three variants

The most stylish Range Rover of the lot, the Evoque first went on sale globally in 2011 becoming one of the best selling models for the company. Land Rover was quick to launch the Evoque in November the same year in India with the luxury SUV meeting a fabulous response here as well. The company had then announced plans to locally assemble the model in the future and keeping its word, Land Rover has officially commenced local assembly of the Evoque in the country, slashing the prices of the SUV by a whopping Rs. 20 lakhs.

The Range Rover Evoque will now come as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit and assembled at Land Rover’s facility at Chikli near Pune. The price cut has been extended to all three variants of the SUV namely Pure, Dynamic and Prestige. In addition to CKD operations, all variants now get front and rear parking sensors with rear view camera, navigation system, fixed panoramic sunroof with a contrast painted roof and Land Rover’s Terrain Response System. The range-topping Prestige trim has been upgraded with rear seat entertainment and a surround camera.

There are no changes under the hood and the locally assembled Range Rover Evoque continues to draw power from the same 2.2-litre SD4 diesel engine, producing 188 HP of power at 3500 RPM and 420 Nm of torque at 2000 RPM. Land Rover, however, will continue to bring the petrol powered Evoque with the 2.0-litre motor producing 177 HP at 5500 RPM and 340 Nm at 1750 RPM, via the CBU route. Both the engines come paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission with power being sent all four wheels.

The CKD operations are for the pre-facelift Range Rover Evoque and not the facelifted version that was showcased in February this year and subsequently made its premiere at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. The Evoque facelift will go on sale globally later in the second half while the Indian launch is scheduled for 2016. The SUV will also get a convertible version next year. The Evoque joins the Freelander 2, Jaguar XF and XJ models at the Pune facility which has seen production triple since 2011.
