Skoda Fabia Returns For 2022 With More Tech & Fuel-Efficient Engines

With the new design, aero efficiency of the hatch has improved

Skoda Auto has revealed the 2022 Fabia with fresh design and new features, while still managing to retain its all-rounder demeanour.

Built on the MQB-AO platform, the fourth-generation Fabia is bigger than its predecessor and yet, its drag coefficient figure of 0.28 is pretty low.

The designers have made light work of transferring the brand’s current design philosophy to the Fabia that looks more mature due to its increased length and width (height stays the same). Now, the car is 4108 mm long, 1780 mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2564 mm.

It has Skoda’s typical crystalline elements such as the chiselled LED front lights (it can be had with full-LED lighting), while strong character lines seen throughout the exterior provide it a muscular look. At the back, the spoiler has now been elongated and made bigger.

Even the wheels (15- to 18-inch options to be available) have been optimised to improve aero, with some designs also fitted with plastic fills to control airflow.

According to Skoda, the 2022 FABIA boasts a large interior that is quieter thanks to improved sound insulation. The cabin has a couple of digital displays, a 2-spoke steering wheel (there is a 3-spoke wheel too), copper interior trim and contrasting upholstery stitching.

Features such as ambient lighting, 2-zone air-conditioning, 3 infotainment screen sizes (6.5-inch Swing, 8-inch Bolero and 9.2-inch Amundsen) are on offer with the bigger one coming with smartphone connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, gesture control and voice control.

There are clever interior features to help make better use of the space inside like card holder, elastic pen holder, luggage compartment tidier, among others.

Also, the Fabia sports a sunroof and has a 380-litre boot, with the option of expanding the cargo space to 1190 litres by folding down the rear seats.

As ever, there will be optional extras and they include heated steering wheel, heated windscreen, PhoneBox (wireless device charger), Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, to name a few.

Safety-wise, the 2022 Skoda Fabia can be had with up to 9 airbags, driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, Lane Assist, Side Assist, Travel Assist, Park Assist, among others. It has a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating as well.

Engine options that the 2022 Skoda Fabia will come with include a 1.0-litre motor in naturally aspirated (64 HP and 79 HP tunes) and turbocharged (94 HP and 127 HP tunes) forms, and a 1.5-litre TSI motor making 147 HP. Gearbox choices are limited to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic.
