The Baleno once again dominated sales in the premium hatchback segment

Maruti’s Baleno was the sales leader in the premium hatchback segment in April 2021, having recorded over 9700 units more than the second best-selling car.

But, it was not the Hyundai i20 which trailed the Maruti car in April, but rather the Altroz from Tata Motors. The premium hatchback witnessed 6649 unit sales this past month.

In the third place then sits the i20, having sold 5002 times over, followed by the Toyota Glanza which saw 2182 unit sales.

Volkswagen’s Polo comes fifth in the April 2021 premium hatchback sales chart, the manufacturer having retailed 1197 units of the well-aged car.

Sixth and seventh positions in the sales chart were occupied by the Honda Jazz (830 units) and the Ford Freestyle (635 units), respectively.

Barring the Jazz, which saw its sales rise by 17 percent month-on-month (MoM), all the other premium hatchbacks saw their sales decrease in April 2021.

It was the i20 which got hurt the most, its sales was 45 percent down MoM, while the Polo (-37 percent), Glanza (-27 percent) and Baleno (-23 percent) also struggled.

The Altroz and Freestyle too saw their sales figures reduce from March to April, but the figures were relatively low at -12 percent and -8 percent, respectively.

Total sales of cars in the segment stood at 32,879 units in April, while in March, they collectively sold 44,085 units, resulting in a 25 percent degrowth MoM.
