The Suzuki Jimny and the Jimny Sierra have been launched in Japan with prices ranging from 14,58,000 – 19,06,200 JPY (approximately Rs. 9.06 – 11.85 lakhs) and 17,60,400 – 20,62,800 JPY (approximately Rs. 10.94 – 12.82 lakhs) respectively. Borrowing design inspiration from the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, both the Jimny and the Jimny Sierra come only in the 3-door form.

Starting with the design, the Suzuki Jimny gets the iconic 5-slat grille with circular headlights (with projectors) on either side. The flared wheel arches and the boxy design of the SUV stand out. The Jimny gets a modern cabin layout. It might remind you of the Swift or the Ignis to some extent. There is a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, SmartPlay infotainment system and rotary dials for the climate control.

The Suzuki Jimny draws power from a 658cc, turbocharged, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 64 PS of power and 96 Nm of torque while the Jimny Sierra comes powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol motor that outputs 102 PS of power and 130 Nm of torque. Both the powertrains come mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic transmission. A low range transfer box is also provided.

Other features on offer are front and side airbags, radar-based collision assist, high beam assist and lane departure assist. Suzuki hasn’t yet confirmed the arrival of the Jimny to the Indian market. However, if it does make it to the Indian shores, it will be a befitting replacement to existing Gypsy.
