Suzuki Launches Hayabusa 50th Anniversary Edition

Suzuki Motorcycles has successfully completed 50 years in the USA and to commemorate the same, it has launched the anniversary edition of the Hayabusa superbike at the 2013 American International Motorcycle Expo. The GSX-1300R is the second special edition bike to be launched after the special edition GSX-R1000 bike in Suzuki’s 2014 lineup. The special edition Hayabusa can immediately be differentiated from the regular Hayabusa given the fascinating paint job on the limited edition model. It gets a two-tone paint job with Gloss Sparkle Black and Candy Daring Red colours on the bottom and top halves respectively.

However the Suzuki Hayabusa remains the same on the mechanical front. It is powered by a 1340cc, liquid-cooled, 4-cylinder, DOHC engine which powers the regular Busa. Output is an impressive 196 HP of power and 154 Nm of torque. The top speed is electronically restricted to 299 km/hr. The bike easily manages a 0-100 km/hr dash in under 3.5 seconds. The Hayabusa has upside down telescopic forks up front and link type monoshock and an alloy swing arm at the rear when it comes to the suspension.

Since it was first launched in 1999, the Hayabusa has created a cult following of its own. The changes are mostly with regard to external styling. Red strips on the 17-inch wheels indicate the minute attention to detail given to the motorcycle. The Hayabusa used to be the fastest production bike in the Indian market until the Kawasaki ZX-14R was launched recently and Suzuki needs to seriously consider giving mechanical upgrades rather than mere cosmetic changes to keep up with the competition.

The regular edition of the Hayabusa in India is on sale for a price of Rs. 15,95,000/- while the already existing 2013 special edition Hayabusa with the yellow paint scheme is priced at Rs. 16,45,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is unlikely that the 2014 anniversary edition of the Hayabusa will hit Indian shores anytime soon.
