Suzuki Motorcycles Aiming To Be In Top 5

The 2 wheeler division of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Suzuki Motorcycles aims to replicate the success in the Indian car market in the Indian 2 wheeler market also. Suzuki Motorcycles sees India as a huge potential for the future 2 wheeler market and aims to be in the top 5 league among all the motorcycle makers present today. This comment was made by a Suzuki official who refused to be identified.

Suzuki Motorcycles has already announced it will be setting up its next 2 wheeler manufacturing and assembly plant in Rohtak in Haryana which will have the capacity to produce around 2 million units by 2015-2016. The official stated that with that investment, Suzuki Motorcycles like its 4 wheeler partner, Maruti Suzuki would be able to dominate the 2 wheeler market in India. The first phase of production which would be about 5 lakh units would commence from 2014 and would further see expansion in a phased manner to take the production capacity to 2 million units.

Suzuki Motorcycles has plans to launch its new commuter bike, the Hayate which is powered by a 110cc next month to take on the current best sellers like Hero Passion, Hero Splendor, Bajaj Discover and TVS Star Sports. It aims to double the share with targeted sales of 10,000 Hayate bike every month initially and has roped in Bollywood actor Salman Khan to attract a broader segment of the two-wheeler market. It also launched the new gearless scooter, Swish this year in the Indian market.
