Tata H5 Spotted Ahead Of Auto Expo Unveil

Ahead of its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo, Tata H5 SUV has been spotted doing test rounds in Bengaluru.

Test mule of the Tata H5 spotted this time is heavily camouflaged

Of late, Tata Motors has been hitting the nail right on the head in India with every successive launch. With the Nexon, the domestic automaker has come a long way in the premium vehicle space and plans to move the game ahead with a slew of new launches. One of the brand’s SUVs slated for an Auto Expo debut has been caught on test. The Tata H5, spotted somewhere on NICE road near Bengaluru, will go against the likes of Jeep Compass.

Initially codenamed the Q501, the H5 borrows its L550 platform from the old Land Rover Discovery Sport and is also believed to take design inspiration from the same. There have been multiple sightings of the H5 in the past as well with a Discovery Sport body shell but now that the car has been camouflaged, we believe that the test mule is sporting the final production-spec design. Further, the 5-spoke alloy wheels seen on an earlier test mule have been painted in black which gave away its identity.

Based on Tata’s IMPACT Design 2.0, this five-seater from Tata will be powered by a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine. This motor is expected to make around ] 140 BHP of power and is currently seen on the Jeep Compass albeit in a more powerful 171 BHP tune that is reportedly reserved for the 7-seater variant codenamed the Q502. Apart from the standard 2WD variant, 4WD capability is also likely to be available.

According to recent reports, the H5 will come as a replacement to the ageing Tata Safari and the Q502 will be a more premium vehicle positioned above it. The Tata H5, along with a number of other cars from the brand, will be unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo but its India launch is still some time away.
