Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 testing starts in India, launch by June this year.

Royal Enfield starts testing the Interceptor 650 in India and the motorcycle has been spotted without any covers in a plain black shade. While the company hasn’t confirmed on a launch date for the Interceptor 650 as well as the Continental GT 650, we expect both the flagship motorcycles to be launched in India by June this year.

Unveiled at EICMA last year, both the motorcycles underpin the same chassis and are powered by the same 648cc parallel-twin, air and oil cooled and fuel-injected engine. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the powertrain is tuned to produce 47 HP of power and 52 Nm of torque. The Interceptor 650 takes the form of a traditional classic (Street) bike while the Continental GT 650 dons the form of a cafe racer. Though both the motorcycles share the same underpinnings, looks wise, they’re as different in more ways than one.

The Interceptor 650 gets a tear-drop tank, flat quilted seat, high-set handlebar and an upright riding position while the Continental GT 650 gets a sculpted fuel-tank, clip-on handlebar and a single-piece seat (Royal Enfield will offer the option of a longer seat to accommodate a pillion as well). Both the vehicles will be available in four different colours – Orange Crush, Ravishing Red, Silver Spectre and Chrome on the Interceptor 650 and Ice Queen, Sea Nymph, Black Magic and Chrome on the Continental GT 650.

Prices are expected to start at Rs. 3.5 lakhs (ex-showroom) and at that price the Interceptor 650 will undercut its rival, the Harley-Davidson Street 750 by a huge margin.
