Top 10 Selling Cars In August 2015, Hyundai Creta Outsells City

2015 Hyundai Creta Test Drive Review

The Hyundai Creta broke into the list at the eighth spot in its second month, while the Honda City and Jazz moved down to the 9th and 10th position respectively with numbers witnessing a marginal dip.

The sales report for the month of August 2015 is out and celebrating its entry is the Hyundai Creta that did overwhelmingly well with 7437 units moved out of showrooms during the previous month. The Korean auto giant’s global compact SUV, the model has struck the right chord with the automaker receiving over 40,000 bookings for the model in just two months since launch. The Creta also accounted for over 50 percent of the total sales in the segment as the cumulative sales stood at 12,100 units.

While Hyundai India will now be facing the challenge of keeping those numbers consistent over the next months, top manufacturer Maruti Suzuki continued to exude its dominance in the market bagging top four positions on the list for August this year. After a two month lead, the Swift DZire is back to the second spot with 18,718 units sold while the Alto regained the top position with 23,017 units sold during the previous month. On a year-on-year basis, sales for the Alto was up by 7 percent while that for the DZire was down by 2 percent. The Swift did a consistent 16,811 units is August, followed by the Wagon R with 14,648 units moving out of showrooms.

The new generation Honda Jazz that made its debut on the top 10 selling list in July this year at the eighth spot moved down to the ninth place in August with 5404 units sold. The Jazz exchanged places with the City as the latter sold a unit more than the Jazz. Literally! 5405 units of the sedan were sold. While sales for the City are better than July 2015, they have taken a rather stark dip over the previous few months, down by almost 30 percent.

Hyundai India also had an amazing August 2015 recording its highest ever cumulative sales for a month during its entire period in India. The Elite i20 was the fifth best selling product in the country with 10,662 units moved out and witnessed a 40 percent year-on-year jump in sales. The Grand i10 was sixth on the list with 10,255 units sold last month and received an increment of 54 percent over last year. The less popular Maruti Celerio (compared to the company’s other performers) now with a diesel heart, rested at the seventh position selling 7927 units.

Special mention goes out to the Ford Figo Aspire that was also launched last month and clocked 5176 units within a period of around two weeks backed by strong pre-bookings, finishing at the 11th spot on the list. The Aspire is the American automaker’s first attempt at a compact sedan and albeit late to the segment, the company did get it right with an overload of segment first features, good looks and bang on pricing.
