Top 10 Selling Cars In January 2016; i20 Beats Baleno

Hyundai Eon vs Renault Kwid vs Maruti Alto

January 2016 witnesses negative growth for most of the cars present in the top 10 list but there are also some surprising changes in the list compared to last year.

January 2016 was a slow start for most of the cars

The January 2016 sales are here and the top 10 cars in the list witness some ups and downs. The top four spot is retained by the largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki. As usual, the biggest selling car here is the Maruti Alto that has witnessed 21,462 units last month but compared to last year, it has seen a 6 percent fall in sales.

Next up is the DZire on the second spot that has also seen a fall of 3 percent from last year. The biggest impact after the launch of the Baleno can be seen on the dwindling sales of the Swift hatchback due to cannibalisation. Compared to last year, the Swift has seen 29 percent fall in sales. The Maruti Wagon R sees consistent sales with 12,744 units sold last month.

Compared to December 2015, the Hyundai Grand i10 witnesses considerable fall in January 2016 selling 9934 units but compare it with the previous year, it has gained 14 percent of growth. The Hyundai Elite i20 has clocked 8250 units last month, which is almost consistent. The Honda City has managed to come a few notches up with 8037 units, it was missing on the top 10 list in December 2015.

The Maruti Baleno is on the top 10 list for the third consecutive month since its launch, which sold 7698 units last month. The biggest surprise in the January 2016 sales list is the Maruti Celerio that has seen a massive jump in sales with 7141 units clocked. Compared to the previous year, the Celerio has witnessed a whopping 48 percent growth thanks to the recent introduction of the diesel version.

Last but not the least, the Renault Kwid has clocked 5985 units in January but compared to December 2015, the entry level hatchback has seen a drop of one position. All in all, the month of January hasn’t been a good start to the year for the automobile industry. The buyers might be looking out for new products revealed at the Auto Expo 2016.
