The 100 HP diesel engine is obviously more efficient. The diesel-manual version delivers 24.70 km/l while the diesel-CVT variant offers 21 km/l. The diesel-CVT produces 80 HP and 160 Nm. The Verna got a facelift and 3 new engine options recently

Hyundai Verna – The Hyundai Verna recently got a mid-life facelift along with new engines. It now comes with 1.5-litre NA petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The diesel-manual variant delivers 25 km/l while the diesel-auto churns out 21.30 km/l. The Verna rivals the Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Maruti Ciaz, Toyota Yaris and Honda City. Except the City, none of its rivals come with a diesel engine now. The Verna is priced from Rs. 10.89-18.18 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).

The Grand i10 NIOS is a feature-loaded hatchback

Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS – The Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS was launched in 2019 as a rival to the Maruti Swift and Ford Figo. It gets 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.2-litre diesel engines. The 75 HP diesel engine offers 25.10 km/l with the manual gearbox and the fuel efficiency with the AMT gearbox is expected to be similar too. The Grand i10 NIOS is priced from Rs. 5.95-9.61 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).

The Altroz doesn’t get an automatic gearbox option yet

Tata Altroz – Tata Motors launched the Altroz after a lot of anticipation. This premium hatchback rivals the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and Hyundai Elite i20. It comes with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The 90 HP diesel engine is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox and it delivers 25.11 km/l. The Altroz is priced from Rs. 6.37-11.22 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).

The Aura is based on the NIOS but offers slightly better efficiency

Hyundai Aura – The most fuel efficient diesel car in India is Hyundai’s latest compact sedan, the Aura. It comes with the same engines as the Grand i10. The 1.2-litre diesel engine delivers 25.40 km/l with the AMT, while the diesel-manual version delivers 25.35 km/l. The Hyundai Aura gives competition to the Maruti Dzire, Ford Aspire, Honda Amaze and Tata Tigor. The Aura is priced from Rs. 6.85-10.97 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).
