Top Selling Bikes In November 2014

November 2014 saw an interesting mix of hits and misses on the leader-board, while the Hero Splendor and Honda Activa continued to maintain their top positions.

The Hero Glamour was the most surprising addition to the list

Despite the recession and stagnant growth in the passenger car market, the Indian two-wheeler space has been shown promising growth in the past year and the same was visible in the month of November 2014 as well. While the numbers weren’t as optimistic as the festive season of October, manufacturers did clock in a healthy number keeping with the momentum, while also registering an overall year-on-year growth. Here are the top 10 selling two-wheelers for November 2014 that managed to woo the masses and keep the cash registers ringing for the their manufacturers.

Starting with the most consistent performer, Hero MotoCorp’s Splendor series once again took top honours being the country’s best selling two-wheeler. The Indian auto giant registered 2,04,919 units in the previous month, which was marginally lesser compared to the 2,21,084 units sold in October. The Splendor was followed closely by the Honda Activa that sold 1,91,175 units in the past month, around 20,000 units more than October and is gaining really fast on the Splendor, the Activa has already beaten the Splendor twice in monthly sales and continues to be a strong contender as ever.

Hero’s other products including the HF Deluxe and Passion which also performed well registering 97,229 and 92,434 units respectively. While the numbers were marginally lesser compared to October, the HF Deluxe managed to do a bit better and moved a step up the ladder at third place. The Passion subsequently came fourth. Honda’s dominance continued to show up on the list with the best selling CB Shine finishing at fifth with 66,648 units sold, while the TVS Moped did well compared to October and rose to sixth position with 61,630 units sold last month.

Honda’s Dream series was also a consistent player but moved down the ladder at seventh place in November from the fifth position it occupied in October. Around 56,414 units of the Dream Series were sold. The surprise package in Hero’s lineup however was the Glamour that broke into the top 10 list at eighth place in November. The 125cc motorcycle sold 52,807 units doing better than Bajaj’s offerings.

The Bajaj bikes saw a major decline in position compared to the month of October. The manufacturer sold only 48,361 unit of the Pulsar series as compared to 70,763 units sold in the month of October. The decline in sales also saw a major drop in terms of ranking and the Pulsar finished at 9th position, as opposed to 6th place in October. The scenario was quite similar for the Discover as well with Bajaj retailing only 42,317 units in November; almost 13,000 units less compared to the 55,729 units sold in October 2014. The Discover also moved down the ranking and finished at 10th place from 7th position in October.
