Hatchback sales rebounded well in June 2021, with all segments posting growth

Maruti’s Alto kept the top position in entry-level hatchback sales in June 2021, having registered sales of 12,513 units with a 71 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth.

Its stablemate, the S-Presso came second with 4926 unit sales, while Renault shifted 2161 units of the Kwid from its showrooms last month.

The final place was occupied by the redi-GO from Datsun, which only found 149 new homes. Overall sales of the cars in the segment stood at 19,749 units, resulting in a solid 48 percent YoY growth.

The Celerio had a bad outing last month

The most popular hatchback segment had overall sales of 57,223 units, with a 121 percent YoY growth and it was led by the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (19,447 units).

Second-placed Swift witnessed sales of 17,727 units, while the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS came third with 8787 unit sales.

Tata Motors sold 4881 units of its Tiago, which took fourth place in the June 2021 hatchback sales list, and it was followed by the Maruti Ignis (3583 units) and the Hyundai Santro (2039 units). Other vehicles in the list did not perform well.

Total sales of the segment was 31,516 units with a 157 percent YoY growth

It was the Maruti Baleno (14,701 units) that stayed in the top position in the premium hatchback segment in June 2021, like it had done on several previous occasions.

Then came the Tata Altroz, which registered sales of 6350 units and the Hyundai i20 was breathing down the Tata product’s neck with 6333 units to its name.

Toyota managed to retail 2586 units of the Glanza this past month, while the Polo from Volkswagen found 1303 new buyers. The Honda Jazz (243 units), came last once again.
