Toyota Recalls 119 Units Of Camry In India For Front Suspension Issue

The Toyota Camry recall has been announced over a possible defect with the front suspension and is a part of a global recall exercise that extends to Europe and the US as well.

Toyota will be contacting the affected owners personally via the company dealers

Toyta Kirloskar Motors (TKM) has announced a recall involving 119 units of the Camry sedan that were manufactured between March and July, 2011 in Japan and were sold in India. As part of the global recall campaign initiated by parent company Toyota Japan, over 1.7 lakh Camry models have been affected including 1.20 lakh units in Europe and around 60 units in the US with the sedan suspected to have a possible defect with the front suspension that needs to be replaced.

Toyota will be contacting the customers personally via authorised dealers and repairs on the affected units of the Camry will be carried out free of cost. The sedan could have a faulty ball joint and could lead to the driver losing control of the vehicle. The faulty part will now be replaced if necessary as part of the recall process. Toyota also stated that it did not register any complaints from Indian customers so far because of the issue. The company has not announced the time needed to make the replacement.

Earlier this year, Toyota had also recalled 44,989 units of the Innova MPV in the country that was manufactured between February 2005 and December 2008 to rectify a faulty cable on the steering wheel. In addition to the global Camry recall, Toyota has also recalled 1.05 lakh units of the Hiace van, mostly sold in Japan over possible fuel pipe defect, as well as 86,000 units of the Crown and Crown Majesta vehicles in Japan over a seat belt glitch.

The repairs will be carried out free of cost for the replacement of the faulty part
