The 2017 Tiger Explorer XCx gets semi-active suspension and an inertial measurement unit

The Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx has been launched in India at a price of Rs. 18.75 lakhs (ex-showroom). Globally, the Triumph Tiger Explorer is available in as many as 8 different variants, but India gets only the off-road focused Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx. The Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx is on sale in India in only limited numbers.

In terms of looks, the 2017 iteration of the Tiger Explorer XCx retains the same outline but gets minor tweaks. The design on the Tiger Explorer XCx is more sharper and muscular now. The big semi-fairing with the electrically adjustable windscreen on the motorcycle looks daunting. The Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx sits on a tubular steel trellis chassis.

The Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx is powered by an updated 1215cc, in-line 3-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that makes 137 HP at 9300 RPM and 123 Nm of torque at 6200 RPM. This engine comes matched to a 6-speed gearbox and features electronic aids like ride-by-wire, 4 selectable rider modes – Rain, Road, Rider and Off-Road, switchable ABS with traction control and slip-assist clutch, cornering ABS and inertial measurement unit (IMU).

Suspension duties are via 48 mm upside-down WP forks with 190 mm of travel and a monoshock at the rear with automatic pre-load adjustment and 193 mm of travel. Triumph has also equipped the Tiger Explorer XCx with Semi-Active Suspension System that allows electronic adjustment of damping and spring pre-load for differing conditions. Twin 305 mm floating disc brakes with Brembo monoblock 4-piston radial calipers at the front and a single 282 mm disc brake with 2-piston caliper at the rear do the job of bringing the motorcycle to a halt.

The Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx sits on a 19-inch and 17-inch spoked wheels at the front and rear respectively. These wheels come wrapped in a 120 section tyre upfront and a 170 section tyre at the rear.

Only 20 units have been reserved for the Indian market. All these units have been imported via the CBU route. The Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx rivals the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro and the BMW R1200GS.
