Volkswagen Polo GTI Imported For Testing With 1.8L Engine

Volkswagen has just recently imported one unit of the Polo GTI performance hatchback to the country from Germany for testing purposes. The company might be contemplating a launch in the coming future.

The Volkswagen Polo GTI is a superfast hatchback

Indian car buyers have always been known for wanting a whole lot of car for as little money as possible. But this trend has been changing off late and there exist customers who seek different aspects when purchasing a vehicle. The same trend saw Volkswagen launch the Polo GT in the country. The performance hatchback did not really get the sales charts on fire but the vehicle did manage to impress many with its amazing performance, which can easily put more expensive vehicles to shame when it comes to speed. I can easily say that the Polo GT sparked of a new hot hatch trend in the Indian automotive market as a result of which Fiat is also planning to launch the Abarth Punto Evo.

Anyhow, Volkswagen is not looking to end matters here and might be thinking of cementing its position as the best hot hatch maker in the country as they recently imported one unit of the Polo GTI from Germany for testing purposes. The Polo GTI gets its power from a 1.8-litre turbocharged TSI engine which is also found on the Skoda Octavia. The engine is tuned to produce 190 BHP of power and is mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. 0-100 km/hr is achieved in just 6.7 seconds and the hatchback can go all the way up to a top speed of 250 km/hr (limited).

Volkswagen did not mentioned anything about the Polo GTI in its two-year plan for India but we sincerely hope that the German manufacturer does indeed bring the more powerful version of the Polo GT to our country in the coming future. Coming to the price perspective, since only the 4-door version is expected to make it to our country, parts sharing with the Polo can be done to keep prices in check. However, the Polo GTI is still expected to cost somewhere in the region of Rs. 16 lakhs (ex-showroom), if not more.

The Polo GTI will be able to fulfill every enthusiast’s dream in India
