Yamaha E-Scooter, Codenamed RY01, Spotted Testing In Bengaluru, Based On River Indie
Yamaha’s electric scooter, codenamed RY01, has been spotted testing in India. The test mule was spied on the streets of Bengaluru, Karnataka. River Indie serves as the basis for the Yamaha RY01.
Yamaha brought the news to light by investing over Rs. 341 crore in River. River’s manufacturing facility will build Yamaha’s equivalent. However, the Yamaha e-scooter will feature design cues that differentiate it from the River Indie.
Similarities With River Indie
The images show a resemblance to the River Indie with the swingarm design and 14-inch wheels. The shape and placement of the 6-inch colour LCD are interestingly similar.
Differences With River Indie
The tail light is positioned upwards, differentiating the Yamaha from the Indie. The side panels undergo major revisions and have a less slab-sided appearance. Additionally, the rear wheel and suspension also have more exposure.
The headlight is also different as compared to the River. It appears to be unique to the Yamaha with a smaller gap between the two LED lights. The Yamaha also doesn’t have the rectangular luggage mounting bars.
The River Indie is advertised as the ‘SUV of scooters’. It is expected that Yamaha will make it like a maxi scooter. Like the Indie, the Yamaha RY01 will continue to have excellent boot space of 43 litres.
Battery & Range
The River Indie is powered by a 6.7 kW motor, delivering a top speed of 90 Km/hr. The 4 kWh NMC battery, utilised by the River Indie, gives a range of 100 km. We expect similar performance and range figures for the Yamaha equivalent.
Expected Price
The River Indie is priced at Rs. 1.44 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is safe to assume that Yamaha may offer its version at a higher price. Notably, despite this collaboration, Yamaha is developing its own global EV platform.
We expect this platform to launch its offerings in 2026 or 2027.
