Mercedes-C-Class Feature Updates
The Mercedes C220d and C300d AMG Line have received additional standard equipment

Being competitive in a very competitive segment is the key to either making or breaking a product. That’s exactly what Mercedes Benz India is doing with the C-Class that falls in the ring with three other players namely the BMW 3-Series, the Audi A4 and the Jaguar XE.

All four cars come with a unique proposition. But the main rivalry is between the German trio as the Jaguar XE is the least selling vehicle in this segment. Mercedes’ move with the C-Class appears to be a counter measure to the newly launched 3-Series by BMW. The update is reserved for the C 220d Progressive and the C 300d AMG Line variants.

The Mercedes C220d Progressive now gets a wireless phone charger at the centre console, a 9-speaker Midline sound system, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a memory function for the driver and front passenger seats. Priced at Rs. 46.50 lakhs (ex-showroom), this update costs Rs. 2.25 lakhs more than the preceding model.

In addition to the features offered in its sibling, the C300d AMG Line gets the ‘Night Package’ which adds gloss black inserts at the front and at the rear bumper along with some redesigned elements to make the car look sportier. This package also includes 5-spoke 18-inch AMG alloy wheels finished in black. Priced at Rs. 49.50 lakhs (ex-showroom), this update costs Rs. 1 lakh more than the preceding model.

Both these variants are powered by the same 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder BS6-compliant turbo-diesel engine coupled with Mercedes’ 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox with paddle shifters and a Sport mode. However, the engines in both the variants are tuned to produce different power and torque figures. The C220d makes 194 HP and 400 Nm of torque, whereas the C300d makes 245 HP and 500 Nm of torque.

The German automaker is supposed to bring the next generation of the C-Class to our shores in 2021. Till then, these feature updates are expected to keep the fierce competition in check.
