The Kia K5 will go on sale in the global market during the first half of 2020.
One of Kia’s best-selling sedans, the K5 (Optima) is here in its 5th-generation form. The most striking change is that the sedan gets a new fastback design roofline which makes it even more stylish. The new sedan will go on sale in the global market during the first half of 2020.
The K5 is a sharp-looking sedan with a shark nose-like aggressive front end. The major design elements include the company’s signature tiger-nose grille, slim headlamps with DRLs, angular air curtains and a broader air intake in the lower half of the bumper. The vehicle now has a muscular and sportier lean-forward stance. The sedan sits 20 mm shorter but is longer by 50 mm, wider by 25 mm while the wheelbase has gone up by 45 mm.
About the interior, the Kia K5 features a wide cabin with the brand’s latest infotainment system which is attached to the instrument cluster. Kia also offers the option of a 10.25-inch touchscreen with the new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, along with a 12-speaker BOSE surround-sound audio system. The cabin also gets a mood lighting system, wireless phone charging and a voice command system enabling the driver to control a range of features in the car.
The Kia K5 will be offered with a range of engine options along with the choice of AWD (All-Wheel-Drive). The 1.6-litre T-GDi engine produces 180 PS and 265 Nm of torque. The K5 is also available with a 2.0-litre MPI engine with 152 PS power and 192 Nm torque and a 2.0-litre engine with a continuously variable valve lift developing 160 PS of power and 196 Nm of torque. A 2.5-litre GDi engine with 194 PS power and 246 Nm torque will also be on offer depending on the market. There might also be a high-performance 2.5-litre T-GDi turbocharged engine, with power and torque outputs of 290 PS and 422 Nm, respectively which can cross the 100 km/hr mark in just 6.6 seconds.
In terms of the safety features, the Kia K5 offers forward collision-avoidance assist (FCA), blind-spot view monitor (BVM) with surround-view monitor (SVM) and blind-spot collision-avoid assist (BCA), lane following assist (LFA), driver attention warning (DAW), and highway driving assist (HDA).
While it isn’t confirmed when will Kia launch this car in India, but there’s a possibility that they might introduce it here next year to compete with other D-segment sedans.
