New car launches from Maruti in 2022 would help the brand keep its sales performance strong

India’s top car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has more than half a dozen car launches planned for 2022 and half of those vehicles will be crossovers/SUVs.

The other half would be small cars and among these will be new models, variants and facelifts. To begin with, Maruti will introduce the Celerio CNG this month and the Baleno facelift in February.

Other cars the automaker is poised to launch in the Indian market post giving them a facelift will include popular models like the Ertiga, XL6 and the Wagon R.

On the other hand, brand-new cars that are in the pipeline are the second-generation Brezza (launch expected in the first month of fiscal year 2023), Jimny (expected to be the 5-door version) and a 4.3-metre SUV jointly developed with Toyota.

If all the 2022 Maruti car launches happen as planned, it would be the brand’s biggest annual product onslaught ever in the country. However, there are roadblocks which need to be considered, chief among which is the dearth of semiconductors.

There is a possibility that not all of these models will be launched by Maruti within this year. But, people in the know state that the brand will launch at least 8 models in the coming 18 months.

What’s more, Maruti’s global alliance partner, Toyota which rebadges and sells the Baleno and Vitara Brezza here, would also benefit from this product offensive and spruce up its portfolio.

Maruti Suzuki, which is poised to post double-digit growth in fiscal year 2022, wants to be able to keep its performance strong next year and also has its sights set on the 20 lakh annual sales mark.
