In a period where the auto industry in itself is not doing that well, Land Rover is unable to meet demand for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. These SUVs are particularly selling very well in China, India and Russia compared to the European market. The developing market is buying these vehicles in large numbers which was unseen in the past. After Tata Motors bought Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in 2008, Range Rovers are selling in very good numbers in India. This is great news for a company which was struggling for its survival not very long ago.

The recently launched Range Rover Sport demands a waiting period of nine months in Europe and its larger sibling Range Rover has a waiting period of six months, even with the production running non-stop in their factory in Solihull, central England. The demand is very high in China where one has to shell out 3,38,000 euros (Rs. 2.9 crores) to become a proud owner of the Range Rover. Customers are willingly shelling out 60,000 euros (Rs. 50.68 lakhs) to move on the top of the waiting list to get their Range Rover Sport quickly.

The Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport are selling impressively and the company is investing the profits made by them in their future growth plans. Some of the engines of Jaguar and Land Rover cars are still manufactured by its former owner Ford and that is said to be the major reason for the long waiting period, because JLR is unable to get enough engines sourced from its supplier.

The new Range Rover Sport will be launched in India on the 18th of October, priced around Rs 1.2 crore. The company claims it to be the fastest SUV it has ever produced. The wheelbase of the new Range Rover Sport is longer than the previous model which makes it quite spacious inside. This new SUV borrows styling cues from the baby Evoque and looks more stylish than ever. With the growing millionaire list in the country, we can expect the new Range Rover Sport to make it to the ultimate wish-list for the big pockets.
