Elon Musk to announce Tesla launch in India and Starlink’s entry on 15th July
According to sources close to the development, Tesla is all set to hold its highly anticipated official launch event in India on 15th July 2025. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is likely to attend the event, which will not only mark Tesla’s India entry but could also include the announcement of Starlink’s entry into the country. The event is expected to be held at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, with reports suggesting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might also make an appearance, adding further importance to the occasion.
Tesla’s First Showroom in India: BKC, Mumbai
Tesla is establishing its first official showroom in India in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. This will be the first Tesla facility in India, where customers will be able to experience Tesla’s electric vehicles and technology firsthand. The showroom is set to serve as a cornerstone of Tesla’s operations in India, as the company aims to create awareness and provide a direct touchpoint for potential customers.
The Model Y: Tesla’s First Car in India
The focus of Tesla’s entry into India will be the Model Y, which will be the company’s first vehicle to launch in the country, it is expected to be priced around Rs. 70 lakhs (ex-showroom). Tesla is likely to import the Model Y from its Berlin factory, which manufactures the right-hand drive (RHD) variant required for the Indian market.
The Model Y will serve as the flagship model for Tesla in India but it is expected that the company will introduce more models in the coming years as the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow. Tesla’s focus will be on building a strong brand presence and capturing a niche market of early EV adopters.
The Road Ahead for Tesla in India
While the initial push will be on importing vehicles like the Model Y, Tesla’s future in India may include local manufacturing. The Indian government is finalising an electric vehicle policy that includes incentives and tax cuts for companies investing in local production. This could pave the way for Tesla to build a manufacturing facility in India, aligning with the country’s broader goal of reducing its dependence on imports and promoting local manufacturing of EVs.
Starlink’s Potential Launch in India
In addition to Tesla’s automotive plans, Elon Musk may also announce the official launch of Starlink in India at the event. According to recent developments, Starlink has received final regulatory approval from India’s National Space Promotion and Authorisation Center (IN-SPACe) to offer satellite communication services using its low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation.
Starlink promises to provide high-speed internet access to underserved areas, including remote and rural regions, bridging the digital divide in India. However, the rollout of Starlink will be contingent upon additional regulatory approvals and the service will require further clearances before it can become fully operational across the country.
A High-Profile Event
The Tesla launch event on 15th July is expected to draw considerable attention, not only for the unveiling of the Model Y but also for the potential launch of Starlink. The possibility of Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending adds further weight to the occasion, underlining the significance of the event for India’s automotive and digital infrastructure.
