BMW’s 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe debuts in India with updated design, tech

BMW has introduced the new 2 Series Gran Coupe in India, with prices starting at Rs. 46.90 lakhs for the base 218 M Sport and going up to Rs. 48.90 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the 218 M Sport Pro trim. Now in its F74 generation, this updated model replaces the outgoing F44 version and continues to serve as BMW’s most accessible offering in the Indian market.

Design and Dimensions

The 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe showcases a sportier and more sculpted exterior design. It is 20 mm longer, 15 mm wider and 15 mm taller than the previous model. At the front, the car features a redesigned fascia with sleeker LED headlamps, vertically-aligned DRLs and a reworked kidney grille that appears as a unified element with a distinctive illuminated outline. The side profile includes sharp character lines, 18-inch alloy wheels and a subtle nod to the model line with a ‘2’ embedded in the Hofmeister kink. The rear end sports redesigned tail-lights, a diffuser-inspired bumper and vertically stacked air exits.

Interior and Features

Inside, the cabin receives a significant technological boost. A curved dual-screen display layout dominates the dashboard, integrating a 10.7-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Most physical buttons have been removed in favour of touch-based controls. A three-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters and minimalistic center console highlight the driver-focused design.

Among the new tech additions is a roof-mounted camera capable of taking photos and recording videos, which can be transferred to a smartphone. BMW also offers a Digital Key feature that allows for remote operation of functions like unlocking, boot access and pre-cooling. This digital key can be shared with up to five users.

Other key features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, 360-degree camera, auto park assist, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind spot monitoring and Lane Keep Assist. However, features such as ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control and rear window sunshades are notably absent.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood, the 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe is powered by a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 156 HP and 230 Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the car drives the front wheels. This is a departure from the previous model’s 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol and diesel engines, both of which offered higher power and torque outputs.

The performance has also seen a step down, with the 0-100 km/hr sprint taking 8.6 seconds, 1.5 seconds slower than the earlier petrol variant. The downsized engine emphasises efficiency and emissions compliance over outright performance.

The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe represents a shift in the entry-level luxury sedan space, focusing more on advanced features and tech-forward interiors while taking a more measured approach to performance. With its refreshed styling, improved cabin experience and digital conveniences, it aims to appeal to urban buyers seeking a premium badge with a modern interface.
