Tata launches updated Punch EV with new batteries, features and pricing
Tata Motors has introduced the updated Punch EV in India with prices starting at Rs. 9.69 lakhs (ex-showroom). This marks the first significant refresh for the brand’s entry-level electric SUV, bringing cosmetic revisions, a reworked battery lineup and pricing adjustments. Bookings for the updated model are now underway, with deliveries expected to commence soon.
Compared to the earlier version that ranged between Rs. 9.99 lakhs and Rs. 14.44 lakhs (ex-showroom), the refreshed Punch EV is now priced from Rs. 9.69 lakhs to Rs. 12.59 lakhs. This makes the entry variant more affordable than before, while the top-spec version has also seen a notable price reduction.
New Battery Options And Improved Range
The facelifted Punch EV now comes with two battery choices – 30kWh and 40kWh – replacing the previous smaller-capacity packs. Both versions use a single front-mounted electric motor driving the front wheels.
The larger 40kWh battery delivers 129 HP and 154 Nm of torque and carries an ARAI-certified range of up to 468 km, with a claimed real-world C75 range of around 355 km. The smaller 30kWh version produces 88 HP and the same 154 Nm torque, with an ARAI-rated range of 365 km. Tata Motors is continuing to offer a lifetime unlimited-kilometre warranty on the battery pack.
Performance-focused figures quoted by the manufacturer include a claimed 0-100 km/hr time of under nine seconds for the higher-capacity version. The SUV also features City, Eco and Sport drive modes, along with four selectable levels of regenerative braking controlled through steering-mounted paddles.
Charging capability has also been enhanced. Using a 65kW DC fast charger, the company claims the battery can be replenished from 20 to 80 percent in 26 minutes, while a 15-minute charge can add roughly 135 km of driving range. Tata states the revised electric architecture improves efficiency through reduced component complexity and enhanced thermal management.
Exterior Tweaks With Familiar EV Identity
Visually, the Punch EV facelift receives mild styling changes while retaining its recognisable electric design cues. Updates include a redesigned front bumper, a cleaner closed grille treatment and the removal of the earlier connecting trim between the headlamps. Signature Y-shaped LED daytime running lamps and the centrally positioned charging port remain.
New 16-inch aero-style alloy wheels have been introduced, along with additional exterior colour choices featuring a contrasting black roof. At the rear, connected LED tail-lamps now feature, aligning the EV’s design more closely with the recently updated ICE Punch. The vehicle continues with a ground clearance of 195 mm and a claimed water-wading ability of 450 mm.
Cabin Layout Largely Unchanged, Feature List Continues
Inside, the dashboard design and dual-tone interior theme remain broadly similar, though updated trim accents have been added. Higher variants are equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a similarly sized digital instrument cluster.
Depending on the variant, available equipment includes wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, connected-car functions and a 360-degree camera system. Safety provisions include six airbags as standard, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX mounts and high-beam assist.
Variants And Market Positioning
The updated Punch EV is offered in six variants, spread across the two battery configurations. In the Indian electric car market, it continues to compete with models such as the Citroen eC3, while within Tata’s own portfolio it sits above the Tiago EV and below the Nexon EV.
