TVS launches Orbiter V1 electric scooter with BaaS ownership option

TVS Motor Company has expanded its electric two-wheeler portfolio with the launch of the TVS Orbiter V1 electric scooter. The new model is positioned as the most accessible offering in the company’s EV lineup and is priced from Rs. 49,999/- (ex-showroom Delhi) when purchased under the newly introduced Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme. Customers who choose to buy the scooter without the battery subscription model can purchase it for Rs. 84,500/- (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Orbiter V1 is powered by a 1.8 kWh battery pack and is designed primarily for everyday urban commuting. According to the company, the scooter offers a certified IDC range of around 86 km on a full charge. Charging from 0 to 80 percent takes approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, making it suitable for daily city use. The Orbiter lineup now consists of two variants, with the V1 joining the previously introduced V2 model that features a larger 3.1 kWh battery.

The scooter is equipped with several convenience and connectivity features aimed at modern commuters. These include a connected mobile application, LED headlamp and a colour LCD instrument cluster capable of displaying incoming calls and alerts. Riders also get turn-by-turn navigation, remote battery monitoring and safety alerts such as crash detection, geo-fencing and anti-theft notifications. Additional rider assistance functions include hill hold assist, cruise control, parking assist and regenerative braking, along with over-the-air software updates.

From a design perspective, the Orbiter V1 emphasises practicality for everyday usage. It features a flat and relatively long seat measuring 845 mm, an upright handlebar for a comfortable riding posture and a 290 mm straight-line footboard providing generous legroom. The scooter also offers 34 litres of under-seat storage, which the company says is large enough to accommodate two helmets.

With the introduction of Battery-as-a-Service, TVS Motor aims to lower the upfront purchase cost of electric scooters by separating the battery cost from the vehicle price. Customers can opt for subscription-based battery usage plans starting from Rs. 862 per month, which also include extended warranty coverage of up to five years or 70,000 km. The company believes this approach could make EV ownership more flexible while improving affordability for a broader set of customers.
