2026 Renault Duster

Renault is planning to broaden the Duster’s range with new automatic variants aimed at making the transmission option more accessible to a wider set of buyers. The move is expected to address the gap that currently exists between the entry-level manual versions and the higher-priced automatic models in the SUV’s lineup.

At present, buyers looking for an automatic Duster have to opt for the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol variant paired with a dual-clutch transmission. Renault has acknowledged customer demand for a more affordable automatic option and has confirmed that additional variants are under development.

While the company has not disclosed specific technical details, Renault Group India CEO Stephane Deblaise indicated that new automatic versions will be introduced at a lower price point than the current automatic offerings. However, he stopped short of confirming whether the new variant would use the existing 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine or if the smaller 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit would also gain an automatic gearbox.

The current Duster range leaves a noticeable price gap between the top-spec 1.0-litre manual variants and the entry-level automatic models. This has led to speculation that Renault could introduce a lower trim equipped with the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol automatic powertrain to make the technology more attainable.

Industry sources also suggest that Renault is evaluating an automatic option for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Although this engine is offered with a CVT transmission in other Renault models, the company is reportedly exploring alternative solutions better suited to the driving characteristics expected from a midsize SUV.

The expansion of the automatic lineup forms part of Renault’s broader strategy for the new-generation Duster. The SUV has been launched in phases, with the more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol variants arriving first, followed by the 1.0-litre versions. A strong-hybrid model is also expected to join the range later this year.

By gradually introducing new powertrain options, Renault aims to cater to a wider range of customer preferences while strengthening the Duster’s position in the competitive midsize SUV segment.
