BMW will introduce the first F10 5-Series plug-in hybrid in China next month at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show. The plug-in hybrid version will be based on the long wheelbase 5-Series. The car will feature a 50bhp electric motor, helping the New Energy Vehicle (as BMW likes to call it) achieve better mileage than the current 5. What interests us though is will it make it to India? The recent Union Budget has given incentives to green cars, which the 5-Series Hybrid actually might be. Going by the Bavarian automakers aggresive product launches in India, we expect the hybrid to be here sooner than we think.

“A highlight at the Shanghai Motor Show in mid-April will be the presentation of our New Energy Vehicle,” Reithofer said. “This model will be our e-car from China for China – a long version of the BMW 5 Series as a plug-in hybrid. This car will benefit from the strength and the excellent reputation of the BMW brand,” Norbert Reithofer, BMW CEO said.
