The Datsun redi-GO is based on the CMF-A platform shared with the Renault Kwid

The Datsun redi-GO is a highly anticipated entry-level hatchback that is going to be launched next week. This car will rival the likes of the Maruti Alto, Tata Nano, Hyundai Eon as well as the Renault Kwid. Speculations were rife that the car’s price will start at Rs. 2.50 lakhs (ex-showroom) but a recent leak on the automaker’s website has revealed something else.

The Datsun redi-GO will carry a starting price of Rs. 2.39 lakhs (ex-showroom). This means that the vehicle will undercut the Alto and Kwid. The Maruti Alto recently received a minor facelift while the Kwid was launched just last year. The Alto continues to be the highest selling car in the country while the Kwid is also raking in very good demand.

The Datsun redi-GO is based on the same CMF-A platform that also underpins the Renault Kwid. It is powered by the same 800cc petrol engine that produces 54 PS of power and 72 Nm of torque. Fuel consumption is pretty good at 20 km/l while 0-100 km/hr comes up in 15.98 seconds.

More details about the redi-GO including prices of all variants will be revealed on 7th June. The Alto has so far remained the undisputed king of the small cars segment but the Kwid has been affecting its sales since a while now. With the launch of the redi-GO at such an attractive price, will it manage to give sleepless nights to the Alto?
