Ola has acquired Etergo to launch Ola Electric scooter globally

Electric scooters are getting quite popular not only globally but in the Indian market as well. There’s Ather, Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube and upcoming Hero e-scooter among many others. Now Etergo AppScooter will join the bandwagon soon.

Yes, Ola has acquired Amsterdam based Etergo EV maker. With this acquisition, Ola Electric has announced their entry into premium electric two-wheeler market. It’s not only for the Indian market but also global presence of Ola Electric.

They have announced their first electric scooter will debut in India by 2021. It is likely to be the Etergo AppScooter. The e-scooter was unveiled in 2018.

It has a swappable modular battery and up to 3 batteries can be used together. The battery has a range of 80 km each. Which means, a total of 240 km range is claimed by the EV maker.

Ola Electric aims to have a suite of electric and smart urban mobility solutions around the world. They believe electric scooters will create a huge demand post COVID-19 situation.

Ola will leverage Etergo’s design and engineering capabilities. They’ll eventually come up with new electric vehicles heavily localised in our country. This should include local battery production to lower the cost.

The Indian company is running pilot programs to deploy electric vehicles and charging solutions with a focus on 2 and 3 wheelers.

Their ultimate aim is to transform 100-million+ global two-wheeler market, which includes the 20-million+ Indian two-wheeler market, into clean energy and digital future.
